About

Bath Spa University is one of the 24 pilot institutions that has worked closely with Jisc to test, affirm and contribute to the further development of Jisc’s framework for digital transformation, including the maturity model and action planning toolkit. Their holistic cross institutional project encompass many of the successful attributes to digital transformation.

The team will share experiences of how they approached this project, the challenges encountered and successes achieved so far, and the next steps in their transformational journey.

Bath Spa University had a digital transformation strategy in place that linked to its wider 2030 organisational strategy. They engaged with Jisc’s digital transformation research pilot to test and complement their own approach.

Through this work they were able to identify the good practice already underway and also conduct a gap analysis to ensure that their approach was comprehensive and complementary to their strategic aims.

Bath Spa University has undertaken a comprehensive digital transformation programme, including a move from a previous version of Blackboard to Blackboard Ultra, and a migration from Google to Microsoft 365. The university has also recently signed up to be an Adobe Creative Campus.

With significant changes underway, the team at Bath Spa wanted to review their digitally related strategic plans. The team knew that the digital organisational changes would require university-wide engagement to help successfully integrate the new digital infrastructure. They also felt this was an opportune time to refresh and further develop their digital fluency (digital capability) agenda.

At this event, we will hear from Bath Spa University’s senior leaders who will share their digital transformation strategy, how they are implementing this collaboratively with staff and students across their organisation and how Jisc’s digital transformation toolkit has supported this work.

The 2024-2025 series of demonstrating digital transformation events mirrors the holistic nature of Jisc's framework for digital transformation. It brings together senior leaders with responsibility for taking forward digital transformation within their university including senior executive/director roles in digital, student experience, education, technical, digital and IT services, libraries, estates and facilities management, registry, data management, learning and teaching, research and innovation roles.
