Jisc raises over £20,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Inspired by powerful personal stories, we're proud to support the UK’s leading charity for children and young people with cancer.

The fundraising journey was especially meaningful for our staff, many of whom were personally touched by the work of Young Lives vs Cancer. Several colleagues bravely shared their own experiences - stories of how the charity supported them and their children through the most difficult times. These powerful testimonies sparked a wave of compassion and solidarity across the organisation, inspiring teams to take action and give back.

Since August 2023, our teams across offices in Bristol, London, Manchester, Oxford, and Cheltenham have taken part in a wide range of fundraising activities. These included solo challenges, quizzes, team miles events, pop-up Christmas shops featuring handmade items, afternoon teas, and even a light-hearted day where staff were fined for using unexplained acronyms.

From the moment of diagnosis, Young Lives vs Cancer’s specialist social workers provide day-to-day support for each child, young person and family. The charity provides accommodation close to hospitals where families can stay together during treatment for free, and grants to help families navigate the costs of cancer.

As the partnership draws to a close, Young Lives vs Cancer has announced that we have raised an incredible £20,000.

Heidi Fraser-Krauss, chief executive officer, Jisc, says:

“We’re incredibly proud to have supported a charity that makes a vital difference to families during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Raising over £20,000 is a testament to the generosity and compassion shown by so many across Jisc, who embraced the partnership wholeheartedly and showed remarkable creativity and determination in their fundraising efforts.”

Last year, the Bristol-based Young Lives vs Cancer team supported 495 children and young people and their families from around the South West, to find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them. They gave out 276 financial grants to the value of £55,520, helping families to cope with the costs of cancer. The Cancer Costs report from the charity found that families with a child on active treatment spend an extra £700 a month on things like travel to hospital, food and clothing.

Claire Tregunna, fundraising engagement manager, Young Lives vs Cancer, said:

“I want to say a massive thank you to Jisc for their phenomenal fundraising efforts. The team have raised an incredible amount during our partnership and I am blown away by their dedication, support and determination to hit the £20,000 mark.

“The team at Jisc have been so dedicated to their fundraising through all their fantastic events and the money they have raised will make a massive difference for children and young people with cancer and their families, by helping us ensure they are getting the support they need.”
