Day 2 - 'Encouraging Innovation' - Wednesday 26th June 2013
Cardiff University (Dr Mark Stacey)
Mark is a consultant anaesthetist and associate dean. He has an interest in optimising the use of technology to both improve medical education and performance of skills that need to be performed under pressure. This will lead to improved patient care. Laura Jackson and Adele Babic are two outstanding anaesthetic trainees, who were responsible for generating the data for this JISC study.
The combination of video feedback, analysis of the video and specific didactic teaching for a specific skill, can potentially enhance deliberate practice (as described by Ericsson), and hence successful performance of that skill. The Cardiff University Medical School project set out to investigate use real time video footage of fibreoptic intubation performed on manikins by trainees before and after didactic training.
