This section looks at what you need to know about using video resources in learning, teaching and research and examines the usefulness of search engines in locating these resources.
In this section you will:
- Think about why you might want to use video resources in teaching and learning
- Consider how copyright law might affect your use of video resources
- Examine whether search engines will be useful for locating the resources you need
Open Google in a pop-up window by selecting the URL icon above.
Select the 'Apps'
menu in the top right corner of Google and select the 'More' link and then 'Even More'. Locate the Media section and you will a 'Video Search' option. Then type 'large hadron collider' into the search box and select 'Google Search'.
Answer the following questions:
- How many results did you get?
- Are they relevant?
- What information on copyright is provided with each result? (You may need to click on the thumbnail and visit the page that hosts the original video to investigate further)
- What do you think of the quality of the videos shown and the variability?
- Is it obvious where these videos have come from?
- Are they provided by reputable organisations?
