  eSafety & eSafeguarding

  
  

  • E-safety is about the safe and responsible use of technologies and the internet.

    The advent of Web 2.0 / social software, means the use of sites which support collaboration, conversation, and the sharing of different forms of media, such as social networking services, are now in the mainstream. Safeguarding learners & staff, and providing them with the skills to safeguard themselves when using this technology, is a vital part of the education that organisations should give to learners and their staff members.

    The short video below demonstrates how important it is to raise awareness especially with young people.

  • • Activity 1 & 2 - Some Scenarios ( involving staff )

      In the following scenarios categorise the risks.
      Green = No or little danger to the person (the activity is one that can continue with proper training)
      Amber = Safe behaviour should be encouraged (the person should be supported; they should stop the activity, or take no further action)
      Red = Escalate (the incident should be reported to the appropriate authorities &/or service provider)

  • The document provided below demonstrates a procedural flow chart for dealing with esafety incidents. Adapted from an idea from Jason Curtis at the JISC RSC West Midlands, it provides a useful guide for dealing with these types of incidents. Developing something similar for your own institution can help to clarify and disseminate your own institutional procedures and consequences the detail of which may not be clear in more generic Acceptable Use Policies.
